Just travelling solo doing the port davey and south coast track in June but finding it very hard to find any transportation options to Scotts Peak Dam. Any advice or info would be greatly appreciated.

There is no guarantee that Scotts Peak Road and the Port Davey Track will be open by then.

In some ways yes, in some no.

The Port Davey has not been touched by fires. The Junction Creek track escaped as well, didn't it? So the big issue is road access. It's understandable if TasPAWS want to keep the road closed if there's any chance of the firefronts flaring up again, but otherwise, I don't see what harm there would be in allowing access to the Port Davey. Of course, that would mean trusting people not to abuse the reopening to head into the Western Arthurs and other areas that are more problematic...

Yeh I agree.

There is alot that needs to be assessed before it will be deemed safe however.

I will be going in June so I think the start of winter will see any potential flare ups well and truly extinguished.

Car hire.
Hitchhike.
Bus partway then hitch.
Friend who will drive you there.
Bicycle.
Shuttle service.
Taxi.

That's all I've come up with when trying to figure this out in the past.

It's assessing the tree damage and removing any potential trees that could fall on the road and kill someone that they are currently concerned about.

But yes hitchhiking or offering a local forum member a considerable $$$ is probably the best bet.

There's talk that winter rains won't be heavy enough to extinguish the burning peat. Flare-ups over winter aren't likely to be an issue. Once it's warmer though.......

I used Tasmanian Wilderness Experiences services back in 2017 for a pickup at the airport and drop off at Scott's Peak dam.
