Access to Mt Black (west coast)?

Wondered if anyone has current info re access to Mt Black? After a recent unpleasant experience I'd like to know for sure if I need to get permission to drive/walk on any road access, and if so, from whom. Thanks.

Nah the track just starts off the highway. High point of the road if i remember correctly. Good track.

As far as I know, no extra permission apart from a valid current driver's licence is required to use the Murchison Highway, so you should be safe. There is no access from the much closer roads and vehicle tracks that start in Roseberry itself, but there is a good taped track from near the large turnout roughly at the high point of the highway between Roseberry and Tullah.

Precise distances (according to the Tarkine Trails book): 4.8km from the centre of Main Street, Roseberry, or 5.2km from the Anthony Rd turnoff. This is beside the slow-car pull-over.
There's a long section of steel railing on the north side of the road and a number of potential entry points, although the main one is behind a pile of gravel and rocks. It's taped. So is the route all the way up, although some of the forest sections can be a little sparse with the markers, so pay attention. Neat walk.

No sweat. Sounds like an interesting story behind the concern.

Hmmmmmm yep. Involves locks and the wrong side of gates and threats and complete lack of signage or any other apparent means of indicating no public access, despite careful research. :x

Where were you Tortie??

Hmmm now my memory isn't exactly great, but I thought I remembered a pretty decent track all the way up Black... No need for tapes at all??

It's variable. A couple of the forest sections do get fairly vague at times due to the annoying habit trees have of shedding bits of themselves directly on the track. So the tape helps minimise problems from that.
