Dogs and Black Bluff

Hi all,

I've had a bit of a sticky beak around this site, but I thought that I would double check before potentially heading up tomorrow: are there any restrictions in place surrounding walking up Black Bluff from Loongana Rd with a dog on a lead?

I've never been up there before, but my mate has asked if he could bring his dog up. I saw another post here a while ago saying that it should be all good.

Any advice surrounding restrictions, or just letting me know if it's a really bad idea, would be great.

I would think probably not due to the alpine vegetation in the area. Check with Parks as it is part of a conservation area. They don't list it on the website as a dog friendly reserve - https://www.parks.tas.gov.au/index.aspx?base=494

You will probably struggle to find any tas supporters of dogs in these areas, just take it to the beach or something.

General rule of thumb is load up LISTmap, put on the land tenure layer and if it's permanent timber production forest or or future potential production forest it's probably ok.

If it's any kind of parks reserve then the answer is generally no unless there's a sign that says otherwise. Black Bluff is under the Nature Conservation Act so it'd be a no, but you could ring the Parks office in Cradle to be sure.

Thanks for the responses, gang. LISTmap is looking pretty handy for future reference.

There's a pretty clear no dogs sign at the start of the O'Neills track at Roland...didn't stop two people taking their dogs up there last weekend.

Tenure is not always a good indicator - I think these days it actually needs to be a designated dog walking area (according to the legislation)
