Tarn shelf - Mt. Field

Postby walkinTas » Wed 16 Jan, 2008 2:25 pm

I am planning my walking calendar for 2008. I want to do an Autumn walk at Mt. Field when the Fagus have turned. I have a couple of questions for anyone who has been there.

  • Is the Tarn shelf a day walk or is overnight best?
  • What is the weather like in Autumn?

It's a day trip - you can either go up to the Shelf and back or loop back through Twilight tarn (which makes it a longish day walk)

That said, my other half and I went up there over Easter weekend in 2006 (mid April) for an overnight getaway - it started sleeting/snowing around mid-afternoon and snowed into the evening. We stayed the Twilight Tarn hut - d*#m cold, but magical!

Great photos, Jaxter! You're the first person to use the new phpBB3 attachments feature on this site, and I found that I didn't have this configured very well for displaying images.

I've now tweaked the settings, downloaded your photos, then re-uploaded them. Now they're displayed as 600 px thumbnails (max) so that we don't have to scroll to see them properly, and people can click on them to see the full-size images.

Thanks Jaxter. I have put this on the calendar for April 25th. Looks like I will need to take all the warm clothing.
