Mobile reception highlands?

Postby Mark Bannister » Sat 03 Feb, 2024 12:47 pm

Hi,

I'm planning on fishing the highlands later this month. Likely areas are Little Pine/Fergus, Nineteen Lagoons area, Julian Lake.
Compared to the South Island of NZ the terrain is relatively flat, is there any reception in the areas above based on members experience?
I will have a PLB and have an Iridium sat phone which I can pre-pay if mobile is very patchy.
Thanks in advance,
MB

You can get areas of good reception on Little Pine, then some parts of the lake there’s nothing.
Great Lake is fine.
Nineteen Lagoons - Augusta is okay, then the further west you go the patchier it becomes although most of the waters near the road have ok reception.
I’m still with Telstra if that makes any difference.

I'm with Telstra.
Agree with rex past Augusta it is patchy at best. Out past ada lagoon though if you climb the nearest bump you can usually get enough reception to check weather forecast
