Lake Rodway and Scott Kilvert Tracks

Postby swills » Tue 05 Oct, 2010 11:17 am

I'm thinking of walking to Waterfall Valley Hut via Lake Hanson, Twisted Lakes and Lake Rodway Track next Monday 11th Oct. instead of the OverlandTrack. Anyone know of its current condition? Snow?Trees? etc.

If you don't get any answers here, you could always call the local Parks office and have a chat to them, I find they are very helpful.

Just came back from Lake Rodway, went in via Lake Hanson/Twisted Lakes and out via the back of Cradle/Kitchen Hut. The track's in good condition (as much as it ever is), there is one tree over the track just past lake Rodway - no drama. There are patches of snow up on the cirque but nothing much, we had no dramas. There is a lot more snow on the track between Marions Lookout and just past Kitchen Hut than anywhere on the Rodway to WFV track. Luckily what snow we did encounter wasn't as slushy as it often is and 90% of the time we walked on it, rather than through it. Of course the track is pretty wet and acting as a creek in plenty of places as usual, though it's as dry as I have seen! So if you like dry feet waterproof boots or a change of socks are a goer.

There was once we arrived! I carried 12kg of head beads and a box of fire lighters, Brett a further almost 5kg of Red Head's log things and another party member had a further 1.5kg of heat beads. We were conservative early on thinking we may run out, but ended up leaving 4kg of heat beads as well as the fire lighters for the next group. Hope they enjoy them!
