I wonder how many PWS management meetings have been consumed by formulating management strategies for the hordes of walkers on Proteus since the release of Abels No 1?

Just wait for the crowds on the Last Abel when Volume 2 comes out.

I know - even I've been there!

'The Abels' It's Here !!!

Postby PeterJ » Mon 30 May, 2011 8:03 pm

The last I heard on vol 2 was Bill chasing up possible authors and asking them to put up the money as well. Don't know where all that progressed to though.

Nice, were you in the party of 11 that made the trip recently??

I believe Narcient peak (NW of lake Bill) and Sharlands peak have also been included as " new Abels"

Well you heard it here first people...

None other than Bill Wilkinson himself, in an email to me not long ago, wrote:Dear Adam,
Volume 2 of the Abels is now out and should be in book shops etc in a week or so, we are very happy with its very high quality, it is a sizeable book being 212 pages.
I have copies already, the retail price is $39.95.
Kindest regards Bill

I am working on a simple online ordering website for Bill at the moment, will take a day or two to come live. Stay tuned.

Notes are a bit more comprehensive than part 1 and maps are better.

Bill did tell me the story of the maps once, but I forget. Some problem or lost translation between the design and the print stage I think. (Re Vol. 1)

Thanks for the heads up. Just took a detour to the airport via MD in Lonnie. Only 2 copies left there now! I would be quite happy if my wifes plane was delayed so I can have a good look ;)

Actually, if you wanted to pay in advance that would mean I could afford 2 copies this week.... You'll need to email me your address again though.
Book is $39 I think, postage should only be 6 or 7.

'The Abels' It's Here !!!

Postby tastrekker » Tue 21 Jun, 2011 1:09 pm

Just saw this topic and it made me move more quickly than any other topic for a while. Along with many others I've keenly waited 15 years for this book. Neither bookshop in Devonport were aware it's available. One was recently told it would be ready for Christmas. The local Mountain Designs had not heard of it but they gave me Launie's number. They only had 10 copies and they sold out quickly. (Prob all went to forum folk). The bloke I spoke to is one of the authors and he is going to find out how they plan to distribute/sell the books and get back to me.

HILARIOUS, dropped into a few bookshops in town today, got the same response "What is it with this book...."

Book City are expecting it today, there was a bloke lurking at the counter waiting! Went around the corner to the Map Shop, they are also expecting it today, asking at the counter the woman points to another bloke "....that's what he wants too, what is it with this book?"

The young bloke at Fullers were rude and didn't know, MD's say they won't be getting it in according to one employee.
