Meander Falls

Postby wondering wombats » Wed 25 Jul, 2007 9:22 pm

 We headed off to complete the walk to Meander Falls, 13 in all, a good group. We started at 10.45am with the day very good for this area this time of the year. The first part of the walk was nice and easy with the sound of running water for ever present. We don't push the pace as we enjoy each others company as well as the walks. At about 12.30 hunger started and the track became more difficult, frost, ice & a little remaining snow made it a bit slippery, but the scenery was great. More referring to book a wondering how far. By 1.15 we reckon 15 to 30 minutes but the weather started to come in, the thought of snow was now present in our minds. Yes with a few minutes we had snow, not much but in this area enough to re-think continuing. As a group we decided to turn back and take no risks. We commenced our return journey with lunch in a clearing on the track about 30 minutes back with snow colds still hanging over us.
The weather stayed clear and we reached the carpark about 3.45, a little buggered but not to bad. Disappointed we didn't make the falls but the walk was still great and we will try again.

Well worth the effort.

Nice try!
A bit like that anywhere in Tassie, and at any time of year... But this time of year especially difficult to get the weather to do what one might like to...
Something to look forward to for next time then, eh?
Standing at the base of the falls with a great quantity of water tumbling down is really quite something!
And for those foot-sure and brave enough to go half way up to the shelf, it's pretty cool there too... But you want to be sure about it - it has the potential to be pretty slippery.

I remember the leeches from early on in that walk...

Cheers.
