Actually on further review I just had a flash there are Xanthorrhoeas going up the Kings link track between glenbrook creek and bunyan lookout, and the visible ridgelines pretty much fit. So there you go, two guesses for the price of one.

I know I have seen Xanthorrhoeas like that but can't for the life of me remember where, so ummm.... Great North Walk, somewhere between Brooklyn and Jerusalem Bay?

Thanks for playing jonnosan but sorry, neither of those locations. This steep descent is much further SSE and a fair distance outside the Blueys.

" much further SSE and a fair distance outside the Blueys" sounds like it would be Budawangs, an area which I am woefully unfamiliar with. No further guesses at this time.

Not Budawangs jonnosan but almost/kind of in the same region. This is a fair bit north of there - but is vaguely linked to it via a series of contiguous NPs and forests/reserves. Popular gorge country and the long distance river below me is well known. Walking this track makes me want to stand on a sawhorse and sing the blues (if I could sing) :).

Not Badgerys but you are much closer and it is the Shoalhaven. Some big clues in one of my previous posts. Recreational troglodytes love this area too.

My initial thought was Bungonia, which seems more likely now, but still can't align with your earlier hint, and still can't narrow down the location? Mt Ayre maybe?

Not Mt Ayre but you're now very close. Head in a southerly direction for about 3km and you'll find it.
Part of my corny clue might even make sense :).

I see on the toppo something called "The Trestle Track" which seems to fit all available evidence.

You have it jonnosan. The Trestle (or Trestles) track, aka the Blue track, in Bungonia NP. Great area for steep gorge and river walking although I haven't visited for some time.

So perhaps the track up Sixteen Mile Spur up towards Bluff Hut?

I'll try looking north from The Nobs towards The Bluff and the west ridge of Buller.
