Seem to recall similar terrain coming up to Dead Woman's Pass, but weather was terrible so I'm not sure about this

Glad you had better weather than us. We had no view of Machu Picchu at all (which didn't really bother me - there are plenty of picture of that place on the internet!)

Moving back to NZ - where are we milling around? Since we all seem to know NZ well I've maybe put a tricky one in here..........

Colder eggs. I was being a bit harsh with wayno as he was pretty close. This photo was taken earlier that morning.

Reckon you are being a bit harsh on Wayno... he's probably only a couple of k's away? (Going purely off maps) I'm guessing somewhere between Matukituki Saddle and Mt Barff (great name  )?

Yep maybe I was a bit harsh - wayno does know NZ very well and there was a big deep valley between where I took the photo and the Bonar so I couldn't quite give it.........

Yep we are just approaching the summit of Barff so WFBW has it

I won't provide an answer to avoid the ping pong between the same people (and anyway I suspect lots of people know this one). I will say tho that the colour and height of the water is a lot different to when I was there - amazing how much it can change in different weather and seasons.

If no progress is made in 24 hours then the owner of the photo should volunteer some additional clues.

Despite its apparent popularity, I'd like to hike the Milford track eventually. Lake Mackinnon?

it has no outflow stream, it relies on loosing its water permeating through the ground or overflowing to the surrounding ground, the size of the lake goes up and down, mainly at one end, but the inflow to the lake goes up and down like a yo yo because theres a small watershed. this is only a small part of the lake that is a spillover for the main part of the lake which is often bone dry,
a reminder to anyone going into NZ lakes in the parks, its forbidden to use all soap or shampoo in them to avoid killing plant life in the lake, and animal life in other waterways, this includes "biodegradeable soaps and shampoos" they often arent as biodegradeable as they make out or don't break down fast enough and arent environmentally friendly in reality. take advantage of any bathroom facilities that are available at some huts if you want to clean yourself with water and or chemicals... with lakes like these there is a very slow water turnover often, so they dont flush clean constantly
a summer ranger is now been put in place at blue lake in nelon lakes which has amongst the clearest cleanest water in the world because people want to wash in it, blue lake its forbidden to even swim in it because the water is so pristine. its rare to be banned from swimming in the lakes though,
there is or was a sign here banning waterskiiing on the lake in this photo... please take this very seriously as it can disturb the local wildlife stir up the lake sediment with it's wake and is disrespectful to other people enjoying the peace and quiet.
it even annoys me when people talk constantly at a place like this, breaking the silence.

shot from the same spot again, where am i standing?
this is looking onto where another track runs. naming that track will be accepted, failing that the mountain range or one of the mountains.
failing that i might have to just accept the park..
have i found somewhere no one else here has been?

A fascinating area Wayno.
The Last one led me to think of Cobb Reservoir - which would make the first one over Lake Sylvester.
Curious that Little Lake Sylvester has a dam wall?
