Spain. From which island is this photo taken?

I've never been to Spain nor any of its islands but this definitely has a Canary feel to it (have spent some time dreaming about being there - looks like a very cool spot to explore).

I'll guess that you are on La Gomera looking at Pico del Teide

Spot on in all respects, MountainMadness. The photo is taken looking east from the laurisilva forest above Hermigua, on the island of La Gomera.

I absolutely adore exploring the Canary Islands. There's not much scope for overnight walks, but I don't know any other place where you can encounter so much variation of terrain within a day-walk. Coastlines, cliffs, forests, crunchy violcanic ash, ravines, mountain peaks, gravel plains, scrubland, wildflowers...

Whoops - sorry forgot I posted a guess here.....

Short on interesting photo at the moment but back to NZ - what is the name of the silhouetted peak in the foreground?

Knew someone would recognise it straight away - it's a very recognisable little peak from Earnslaw and surrounds. Yes definitely stayed in the hut - was a very cool high altitude (for NZ standards) hut.....

I have glimpsed it in one of my photos, but given its minor status next to Earnslaw, you will have to thank the fascinating photo essays of Danilo Hegg and his companions for my recollection.

Sure is eggs. I walked the Mt Crichton loop and dropped down the link track to Lake Dispute for a bit to have a look. Interesting little circuit.

Correct.
I love the escarpment at the back which is the east wall of the Great Rift Valley - and also the millions of flamingos.

Looks like the Darran's from somewhere along the Hollyford Face? Actually thinking about it more it reminds me of the creek crossing nearest to the huts on Harris Saddle on the Hollyford side?

(EDIT... I'm talking about the Routeburn of course)

Sorry WFBW, none of those - quite a distance away but it is south island. The track is a popular short walk from a drive-in camp ground. Some big peaks around here.

EDIT: I should add that the track also branches to a more challenging route with a hut as the destination.
