I was a bit cheeky leaving out the full mountain on the left in the previous photo (I did think someone on this site would recognize it though and make the connection). Hopefully the wider shot below (taken at the bottom of the snow saddle) completes the perspective and will give enough away……………

I had a suspicion from the second photo that it was the south ridge off Mt Cook in view.
But only just dragged out a map to check angles.
The surprise was that your view is very similar to the one we got from Mt Olivier.
Which suggests you were probably headed for Mt Sealy - maybe on the Metelille Glacier?

Good deduction eggs - your right.

We actually ended up going back via Mt Oliver and Meuller Hut. Nice area up there and Sealy is fairly easy and only a long day trip from the Village.

I had pretty similar weather when I was last at Milford Sound.
Where was I in November last year? (NZ again)

Pretty much hit the nail on the head! It's on Mt Taranaki just above the Tahurangi Lodge where the turnoff to the northern summit route is. Wrong time of year to go up to the top though as there was too much snow, so we gave it a miss. It was a great walk though nonetheless!

A bit lucky.

Next one is back to Europe
There are 3 major peaks related to this photo - 2 are on the horizon and one is close by.

Lots of borders in view.
The col is the border of France and Italy.
The 2 major peaks at back are another border.

This is a wider angle from the same spot but of the 3rd peak I mentioned.
I am on a "Tete...."

In the first photo eggs, is that the Matterhorn at the very back, left-ish?

As an alternative - I will give it to whoever can name the other 2 major peaks I have alluded to.
[John has picked up on the Matterhorn.]

[As for the Tete I was on - this is the view back to the major Col where my compatriots were waiting for me. It was the highest point we went to on our trip.]

Haven't been in that area before so didn't recognize any aspects of those peaks. But no bites so snooped around a bit on the web and its apparent you are at Tete Nord des Fours. Once I've had some sleep I'll do some trig and name those peaks (guessing Mt Blanc is in or behind other peaks in your second photo you posted)................

No need - Tete Nord des Fours is correct - the small peak above Col des Fours.
It is on the Mt Blanc massif which was the second shot. The first shot also included Mt Rosa - 2nd highest in the Alps on the border of Italy and Switzerland.

Due to its proximity to the Matterhorn and its prominence, I did initially consider Mt Rosa...........

Moving back to NZ, where is this?

The mountains/hills look too low, but to get the ball rolling I'll try Lake Wakatipu.

Not Wakatipu. I admit this is a bit of a touristy shot and not technical a 'bushwalk' (just a very nice area).

Yes I think it was from the road (actually if I recall correctly our baby was asleep in the car - hence pretty much from the road.........). Yes but you obviously recognized the body of water so I'll hand it over to eggs

This will be a view of Akaroa Harbour from Lighthouse Road.
The Akaroa Track crosses this road.
We stayed in a hostel high up on this ridge - under Stony Bay Peak off Long Bay Road.

This place is related to the last photo.
I was on a track, but not far from a road. Name of the general area will do.

Akaroa can be defined as a larger or smaller area....
This is not Akaroa harbour.
