Tropical USA location. I'm up pretty high, a little below 10,000 feet ASL.

In that case it has to be Maui. I'd say you're near the end of the Pa Kaoao Trail.

That's close enough. Not Pa Kaoao Trail, although I did do that as well - it's a short loop near the little visitors hut in the centre background of the photo. I'm part way down Keonehe`ehe`e Trail (Sliding Sands Trail). All yours ribuck.

Thanks johnw, but I can't accept the next turn with a clear conscience. I had specifically considered the Sliding Sands Trail and rejected it.

So anyone can go next.

The trail you mentioned is in the scene though. Anyone please post, including ribuck :).

Thanks MM. I thought it had a bit of zoom but the shape is very distinctive.

South Island. I'm on a circuit walk around the lake in front. Mountains at the back are big ones.

I don't have the exact same shot but the background compares with my photos of Lake Matheson - (foothills of Cook/Tasman, in typical West Coast weather...............)

Yes it is Lake Matheson MM. Apparently popular to take reflective photos of Cook etc in the lake when conditions are right (clearly not on this day). I can't remember the name of the lookout where I took this, there are a number of them around the lake.

No one got my reference to the South Island party town? I could send through a less of a zoomed shot of the famous NZ jagged mountain range but figure surely someone will recognize the shape of the mountain now :o

Sorry MM. I did see your clue but wasn't sure if you meant below the clouds in the photo or you just had a big night . With the extra info I'm guessing The Remarkables from Queenstown (having stayed in the very middle of town for nearly a week I can definitely confirm that's a party town :)).

Not sure why, but it reminds of the stream north of (and over the ridge from) Waihohonu Hut in Tongariro, at the south end of the Rangipo (?) desert? Might even be Waihohonu stream but I thought that was the one directly adjacent the hut. Probably way off tho.

Tongariro is on my bucket list but have yet to visit the north island. This is a fair way south.

That's it Lachlan. Not too unusual for NZ, we did the walk along the Arrow River in the rain.

Yes, it's a rather attractive stretch of creek, even when damp. I was lucky enough to be there on a nice sunny day (well, by NZ standards anyway). Did you get a chance to check out the Chinese gold rush era settlement at Arrowtown while you were there?

Staying in New Zealand, where are these extremely windswept rocks?

I didn't get this far south. I believe this is Nugget Point/Tokata and you are possibly standing at/near the lighthouse.

Thanks Lachlan, looks wild.

Switching to USA. For something offbeat, either name this bridge which spans between two states, name another significant piece of infrastructure near me, or name the location and its natural features.
