Not Earnslaw – although I’ve had a good look at this peak from Earnslaw.

Actually this is not unlike your last entry WFBW – photo taken from a creek/river headwater, above the end of a named track, with the approach not being the easiest way to summit the mountain………

You can see the peak from this shot - taken from the NW face of Earnslaw.

Maybe Aspiring?
If so - is this via the Waiatoto Valley?

Edit - Scrub that - I just checked some photos and I now think you are going up Rob Roy

While the first photo appeared generic, I was able to match the details to my shot.
Rob Roy valley walk is a ripper.
Climbing it is above my level..

Next one - what am I looking at in Scotland.

A wider view.
We had hoped to get a boat into the heart of this place in order to visit a Loch and climb one of the smaller peaks, but they cancelled due to weather.

I haven't been able to come up with anything as yet eggs. To narrow it down are you in the vicinity of Lochaber?

I was on an island John.
We had come by car ferry that day, but there is also a bridge to the mainland Scotland.

The skyline in the first shot is reputed to belong to the most rugged range in the UK.
It looks very dark doesn't it....

The shoreline in the second is where the boat was based to take folk over to the range and its amazing Loch embedded in the heart of it.
So not in Lochaber, but not far away.
In fact the car ferry started its journey in the Lochaber area.

Would it be Black Cuillin Ridge on Skye? If I'm right have another go as I don't have any overseas shots ready to upload.

That's right - it's a stand-out peak on the trail to Everest Base Camp.

Thanks Graham. I'd like to think I still might walk to EBC one day, but as I'm getting older not sure how I'd cope with the altitude.

USA, name of the settlement I'm near will do:

I don't know how old you are but we're both over 60 and coped all right. A few others in the 60+ age bracket also on the track. The altitude doesn't necessarily pick the old and infirm. We passed a group of rugby players from Newcastle Knights on our way down and saw later that 3 of them had been airlifted out with altitude sickness. That made us feel good!

Thanks Graham. 63+, so there may be hope for me yet :). I did a walk a few years back with a lady (maybe 40-ish) who had attempted it but turned back due to altitude sickness.

Yes I'll pay that eggs. My clue was prompting for Mammoth Hot Springs but Fort Yellowstone is part of the complex.
I went for a walk along the old Gardiner road (fire trail) to be confronted by a herd of elk, many of them out of frame.
Some seemed a little agitated and, being aware of the rules around minimum distances for approaching wildlife, I was unsure whether to proceed. Then a local woman came straight through the middle of them from the other direction walking her small dog!

I'm fortunate that there are not a lot of settlements in the park.

I think you're at Lough Tay in the Wicklow Mountains eggs.

Could be anywhere on the Sth Island? I'll take a punt and say looking up the Nth branch of the Routeburn from the track behind RB Flats Hut... from memory there was a waterfall roughly in that relative position??

Not Routeburn track, not Milford Sound. It is South Island on a short walk in a popular location, a fair distance north-ish from both places.
