JohnW has it.
"Magni was created during the 2010 eruption of Eyjafjallajökull.
This was Iceland’s most famous eruptions of recent times. Starting on March 20th, then restarting with much more dramatic effects on April 14th, it created a huge ash cloud that kept planes across Europe grounded for weeks.
It had a significant effect on the economy worldwide, and agriculture regionally.
Magni, and Móði, were formed towards the end of the eruption. Due to the unbelievable heat of cooling lava, snow would not settle on them for years, and for long after they would glow in the dark."

I remember parts of the "mountain" still being hot to walk on in 2013.

Thanks wobbly, looks a fascinating place to visit. Worlds apart but it reminds me of the Haleakala crater on Maui.

Ah, you meant the big canyon. Not the Colorado or Rio Grande. The canyon on the nearby river here is spectacular but much smaller than the Grand Canyon.
The interesting feature on this river is microscopic by comparison.

This is in a state that adjoins Utah. I could probably almost make a cup of coffee just around the bend.

State of Colorado, Arkansas River, City of Pueblo - Pablo Coffee - when only the best will do ...

A bend in the river? Famed Pueblo habitations? ( but i'm thinking Navaho - further south i'm sure )

But that photo looks high, bleak and cold Himalayan, without the pointy bits.

Not Colorado. Not the coffee itself, rather the means to make it. Not referring to native Americans.
The general area is world famous, much of it is snowbound for a large part of the year.

So, I've eliminated Utah and Colorado. It could be one of two remaining states bordering Utah - Idaho or Wyoming.
I am very close to a border between one of those and another state to the north of both.

Well you're close to Montana and in part of the Yellowstone complex. You don't appear to be in the Glacier NP as that's on the border with Canada. But the photo looks quite glacial.

You're in Wyoming and that must be where Yellowstone largely is. Yogi Bear comes from there and he and Booboo were always on the hunt for pic-a-nic baskets.

Now, back to earlier clues ... " I could probably almost make a cup of coffee just around the bend".

You are closing in on the location - I am in Wyoming and only a few miles from Montana. A larger scale map might help. This river is shown and named on your map but is somewhat obscured by various labels. About the coffee making, think geothermal.

We had three (benign) encounters with bears during our 5 day stay in Yellowstone. Twice with black bears and once with a grizzly. I was carrying bear spray and a bell on this short walk.

Cycling along the Gardiner River track?
Road closed for winter so pretty high up.
You could do the coffee on Bunsen Pk if the Springs were tepid.

The Chapel in Mammoth Hot Springs is for everytime someone's eaten by a bear? And nuptials.
You could've mentioned the elephant in the room.

It's yours Wobbly.

The interesting feature is the Boiling River that can only be swum in if you're around the bend where the heat's diluted by the Gardner River.

Located between Mammoth and Gardiner.

Gardiner River is all I was looking for, so you have it vagrom. No cycling on the trail I was on but there is another nearby where you could. I don't know about people being eaten and elephants but I did eat bison while there, those are pretty big and would try and get into a room given the opportunity. I wanted to do the Bunsen Peak hike but the trail was still buried under a couple of metres of snow.

Yes it was, wobbly

Correct, it's actually a hot spring that feeds into the Gardiner River. Another interesting fact - If staying in Mammoth or camping nearby and you need to buy anything, it's worth the ~10 minute drive into Gardiner. No sales tax applies in Montana, so I paid 10 USD less for bear spray there than in Wyoming.
Over to you vagrom.

Okay John, it was the Gardner River in the end.

This is in Europe. I would have walked and hitched this route. I took shelter in someone's Beetle, parked out front of a farm house while the rain hammered down.

Clue time:

The scene is close to this country's longest, waypointed walking trail - 230kms. A tourist drawcard with one very well known, historical feature in view.

If that larger island is the one I hope it is - I didn't get to visit it - ( 12km's off the mainland ), then it's regarded as the western most part of continental Europe. It supported a monastic community of about a dozen Augustinian monks at any one time, from the 8th to the 13th centuries.
Their founder gave us the instruction Solvitur Ambulando - walking will solve all problems.

If they're the correct islands then Bolus Head is the best guess for the angle, eggs.

Google Search never gave me the exact location. There seem to be two similar islands to the south-east of the Skelligs and plenty of others as well.

All I ever wanted was mention of the well known Ring of Kerry so i've closed the piece.

Fire away.

I had hoped to see the Skelligs on that drive - but deep mist down to sea level when we went through.
Did manage to see them looming in another mist on a boat cruise at the Blaskets

This is from the UK.
