I've only been through the area by road, so a bit more research - Iris Burn valley, Kepler Track?

Correct. Similar to the previous one in that it's a well-trodden valley track and the photo was take from an old slip.

Thanks WFBW, if I ever manage to do a multiday walk in NZ the Kepler is currently high on my list of possibilities.

I was going to put up another NZ shot but let's mix it up with this slightly unusual one.

That's a funny photo. A google maps search for Robert Reamer Avenue puts me in Gardiner, Montana.

You noticed the clue Tyreless :). Yes, the small wild west-esque town of Gardiner, Montana on the boundary of Yellowstone NP. The antics of the wildlife in the area never ceased to amaze me. When I saw this elk wandering along the street at that spot I just had to take a photo. Gardiner is worth a visit, but another thing to note is that Montana has no sales tax. I had to buy bear spray to go hiking and it was US$10 cheaper here than inside the park, which is in Wyoming (mainly).

If that's White Island smoking away in the back right, then it's Moutohora island in the foregound. Bay of Plenty.

Not up there, this location is south island. The smoke is cloud surrounding some pretty big mountains.

A day or two later I walked from this spot over the top of this mountain L-R, returning along the shore of the body of water in view. About 300m climb and probably ~13 km.

Getting closer eggs but still a way off. I'm roughly NE from Wanaka. I have a nominal attachment to this mountain.

Yes you have it eggs. Since the kiwis named a mountain after me I thought I should at least have the good grace to climb it :). The observatory was just visible before I scaled the image down. I was really disappointed though that their espresso machine was broken when I got to the summit. Nice easy circuit walk from the village with great views of the lake and beyond.

Sorry to hear that Brian, hope the prognosis looks positive? The risk worries me as I get older plus having had knee surgery.

Correct eggs, I'm on the foreshore in Wanaka. Could be one or two additional peaks in view but I can't sort them out.

An early morning trip on the Slea Head Drive out of Dingle was most enjoyable.
It wasn't raining and hey - we even had sun at times.. :)

Sybil Head [and Sybil Point] in view had been my desired goal but running short of time we settled on a short walk onto nearby Clogher Head.
There are a number of walks here - including a circuit on the Three Sisters.
Looks much better in person than any photos can provide. Those cliffs while not super high are quite awe inspiring.

Oddly I can see some similarities in both the rock and the figures, but this location is not on the US mainland.
If it helps these are thought to be 200 to 300 years old.
