Yes, that's Andoya (duck island). The rocket range is (in)famous for nearly starting ww3 when they sent up a science missile the soviets mistook for an american attack. All yours Pazzar.

Clue time - this river is one of the largest wild rivers remaining in Europe, and there is plans for multiple dams to be built on it.

Thanks pazzar. This is Asia (and is pretty much the only international walking photo I have left to post).

Yes, I am in the land of the rising sun. Plus, the hut is on a mountain named after the rising sun. As a further clue, in the attached photo (also taken at this spot) I am enjoying a Japanese beer. The mountain shares its name with a popular brand of Japanese beer, but it's not the brand I am drinking in the photo.

The name is right, but it's on a different island. Whoever can tell me the correct island gets the next go.

I'm confused (not unusual). I can only find one Mt Asahi, which is on Hokkaido. Trial and error - Honshu?

Yes, it's on Honshu. Also known as Asahidake (which translates as Asahi Peak or Mt Asahi) - obviously not as famous as the one on Hokkaido.

Sorry that was so difficult - I'm running low on international photos so I only have obscure things left.

All yours, johnw.

Thanks Tyreless, I may get to Japan one day. I find most international photos harder to guess unless you've actually been to the subject location.

That said, I've just returned from about 4 weeks travelling in North America. This was from an easy hike early in the trip, hopefully not too obscure.

May be too obscure. Some clues, seen from a different angle:

That's it eggs, hopefully a few extra clues in the second photo helped. I had to turn around here and return. The hand tram over the gorge was closed, sadly due to a fatality a few months back. However it was a nice walk with quite varied scenery and forms part of the long distance Iditarod trail. As with much of Alaska you do need to be aware of bear, moose etc, even on the most innocent looking trails.

Correct. The other photo had the tide in - quite a difference then.
I believe this is where some of "the Piano" was filmed.
