167 views and no guesses. Clearly time for a clue. This next image was taken about 20 minutes further along the track. It's a well known beach in these parts and is a day walk destination in its own right - although we where on a 6 day jaunt. Name the beach or the location/area/region.

Two weeks is long enough so I will post a picture from my trip to Asia. Either name the Mountain I am on or the lakes in view.

I only recognize it because I've been researching (dreaming) for a future trip :) Looks brilliant.

This one is in NZ...

Broke it again.

This valley is north-ish South Island.

Still broken.

The ridge I'm on has a boy's name and somewhere up in head of that valley is a pretty-coloured lake. There's a much bigger lake behind me.

Right NP, wrong valley and ridge (and looking upstream rather than down). This valley is more well-trodden than the D'Urville. David Saddle is hidden behind the snowy peaks in the top right.

Right range. Keep going north. The "boy's name" applies to both the ridge being traversed and a peak on it (yes I know the same can be said for Travers, but you definitely don't get this view from Travers Saddle).

Hmmm well the only option that seems to match is Mt Cedric? Or is it Robert Ridge?
Mt Cedric would match the clue's about the lakes you gave, but Robert Ridge matches your most recent clue about a ridge and a peak (Mt Robert), but it's location on NZ Topo Maps doesn't really fit with the picture...
I'll go for somewhere around Mt Cedric.

Yep on Cedric Ridge, a bit below Mt. Cedric, looking up the Sabine valley to Mt Franklin and co.

Time for a clue methinks
Well, where I'm standing wouldn't have existed 1000 years ago, and that 'river' meeting the sea is actually an extremely thin channel between two islands.

With that clue I will hazard a guess at Whakanewha park on Waikehe island? I hope to visit there next year.
And he sees the vision splendid of the sunlit plains extended,
And at night the wondrous glory of the everlasting stars.

Not the right answer. There may be a speed limit sign and a small 'bach' (old holiday house) in the photo but as far as I'm aware, no one lives on this island.
And ignore that 1000 year old clue I wrote earlier, I've just done a bit more research and found that to not be correct.

I've yet to visit the north island, but could this be Bridal Veil Falls (Waireinga) near Raglan, Waikato?

The lake, ice, and one of the background peaks, have something in common.
