With the Southern Pictons, Bobs & Pindars so close together - you appear to be on the eastern part of Schnells Ridge [the 1085m peak in view]

It's not Schnells, eggs, although you are in the right area. Nor is that bump 1085m, not on the maps and not on my GPS.

Oh yeah, Gallagher it is. And for anyone wanting to go out there, I have two bits of advice.

First, the true high point - as is obvious from both the maps and a general overlook of the thing from Schnells - is not the 961m rise on the Peakbaggers list, but the 984m one a bit over one km to the south east.
Second, take a different route to mine, and make sure you're wearing your heaviest scrub armour.

On paper this looks the best route, is this not the case in reality?

It might be (though I doubt it), but it still isn't going to be easy. But you're dropping too far to the north of the saddle, and you do not want to try to go over the top of that little knoll on the connecting moraine from East Schnells. South of the saddle would be better than north. Probably.
And that's far more info than should really be mentioned publicly here.

A lot bleaker than my visit. I got rainbows and patches of sunshine and blue sky between the mist, rain and hail The wind was consistent.

I'm a little snowed under at the moment, so something appropriate.
