Thats right Dave, that notch in geryon is quite distinctive hey.
Mt Rogoona doesn't really stand out much when looking from Mt Ossa, it's a great spot to get a different perspective of the OT mts though.

OK I'll throw one out there. Feders and the Eastern Arthurs, but I've got no idea where from so I'm going to just have to make a wild guess at Hartz?

Not quite the right angle to have been taken from Hartz. Looks further north. The flat ridge in the foreground had me thinking of Hewardia Ridge.

Not from Hartz - I have a photo from there and not the right angle as MJD says.

But I also have a photo from Eliza and the profile of Federation is nearly perfect, just a bit squashed, implying it is to the east a bit more.
Of course the other problem is the flatish foreground.
Schnell's Ridge is anything but flat - so it rules that out - which would probably include any angle from Sara Jane side.

That pushes out to Weld Ridge, Gallagher plateau or even something close in like Strike Ridge.
I will suggest that it is looking over the edge of Strike Ridge from the side of Lucifer Ridge or there-abouts.

Boy - got that wrong.
I should have said from the side of the Razorback, not Lucifer. Sorry

Sad to say the first good look I got at Feders was when I did the South Coast track in November '08... Did I say a "good" look? I clearly haven't seen it from enough peaks down that way. Mt Anne, it was cloudy out there. Picton, I was in the clouds and missed out on bagging it. Hartz? I've been there but don't remember, likely 1985 and didn't travel far from the car. Western Arthurs? Snow. One night at Cygnus then we were out of there.
So a peak that I so wanted to see, and I got to see it proper for the first time from New River Lagoon. How sad is that?
That little story explains a bit more why I might have had a tear in my eye in the plane flying right past it in perfect weather after leaving Melaleuca.
Suffice to say, Dave, I don't know. I'm out.

But they were good shots from the plane. Makes you wonder where the "track" goes.

People have got the familiar (Federation Peak and ....) but not the unfamiliar (photo location) but Eggs' reasoning is quite good.

From near Mt Weld? Was up there recently but it was misty the whole time, so no views.

I'll take a punt - from the north Cracroft Plains, perhaps with the Razorback in the foreground?

No idea of the name of the location but I am guessing that the photo was taken from a ridge to the SW of Lake Sydney, about 11kms SE of Feders.

The Weld Ridge or Mt Frederick - but the photo seems to have been taken be a bit too late in the day for either of these to be a sensible answer :D otherewise Eggs would have been pretty close with some of his analysis.

I am not sure what time of day has to do with this.
Dave Noble could be anywhere at anytime of the day or night

I suspect it is actually the pink glow of morning?
And if it is further out than the Gallagher Plateau, I know Dave has done at least 1 trip down the Weld River, and it was probably on an approach to that river that this was taken.
However, I will try and be more specific and suggest the Jubilee Range.

And is this a telephoto shot?
Now to scan through all his photos.... what were you saying tasadam?

Eggs is right - it was taken from the Jubilee Range - And shows the Eastern and Western Arthurs.

Well done!

Dave, I know you have done a lot of walking, but did you go up the Jubilee Range on your Weld River trip?

That was certainly a harder puzzle.
This should not be so hard - I will be interested if anyone can name the 5 peaks on the skyline?

Agreed. I notice you can see that tarn in front of Perrins from there as well - I grabbed a photo of that when I was on Perrins.
Actually, I grabbed a photo of everything while I was on Perrins... :)
Don't know about the peaks on the horizon though. You'll have to enlighten us.

stubowling - you've got it
Sorry about the quality. There was an awful lot of smoke in the air on a few days of this walk - particularly in the South.
(When we flew out, we could not see Hobert or Mt wellington through the haze.)

The peaks at the back are Mts Geikie and Tyndall at each end of a long plateau, Mt Dundas and fairly small and distant, Mts Agnew and Heemskirk.
Over to stubowling on this quiet Monday

I was out at Thetis / Perrins this easter, so looked pretty familiar.
This one, since I am standing on an un-named point, I'll take the name of the centre peak.
The ranges in the background may give some clues.

SHEESH!!!!!!!
Log in after a week away from BWT to find this thread has gone ballistic
Spent far to long "distracted" from work this morning catching up with this thread, and now to get sucked right in with this latest photo . . . . .
By my reckoning, its somewhere on the Wellington Range and I'll take a guess at Collins Bonnet.

Re: Game - "Where am I ?"

I've been scratching my head over this one for too long and I'm giving up.
The scrub past the rocks in the foreground looks a lot like the treeline just below Thetis (north side) as well as along the side of approach to Perrins. But none of the peaks look familiar, I've just been trolling through many photos I have of that area (because of my similarity re the scrub) but nothing looks familiar.
I saved the file to the hard disk and found the photo was taken 3rd Feb 2007 but your previous posts don't help.
I blew the image up & increased the contrast so I can analyse the horizon peaks, and I cannot identify anything there.
The drop to the left looks pretty deep. And the shape of the centre peak looks like it cops weather from the left, so I would guess left is west. But that didn't help.
So, I tried, and I failed on this one.
Any clues?

clue 1: Adam, you are right, left is west.
clue 2: It is nowhere along the Wellington Range.
clue 3: the centre peak which I am after the name of is inside a park boundary, the next peak along is outside a park boundary.
Enough clues?

Having pondered the King William Range and Ben Lomond and remaining totally lost I can now see stubowlings clues and I threw all that away.

I think it is Mt Lord in Mt Field National park from the peak to its South.
That would make the peaks in the left distance the King William Range plus bottom peaks of Lake St Clair end.
And I can just out the small pond at the back of Mt Lord
