Nope. Lost a bit of skin taking a wrong track to a false summit on Montagu though. Was a little overgrown. Bashed to the proper summit and found a much nicer track on the way down

Hehe you obviously went up over Cathedral rock along the Thumbs and down to Wellington falls... that first track you come across is a secondary route off Mt Montagu. It's only 5 minutes from the main track though which as you said is much easier to follow.

Ah well looks like I get to keep the nice new beannie I found....

I can sure see the Dial range now that it's mentioned, might be a smaller peak than Tor or BB though. perhaps near the top of Cattley just before the horror stretch of cutting grass...?

It looks roughly the right shape for Lake Rhona with a high water level and the right rock type, I think, so I'll start with that as a guess,

It's from the nrth, the route described in the Abels book. The southern route you took has access issues due to gates on forestry roads.

Ah that's a shame. It was a fantastic approach from the SW. Through nice open forest onto the rock and easily done in 3-4hrs return.

Wow, it's one I recognize. That's somewhere in the vicinity of Crossing River looking up at the Western Arthurs. Not sure about those stones marking the trail though. Is that a junction to a side track?
