Lake Louisa?
Thu 17 Jan, 2019 9:33 pm
No its not Lake Louisa
This lake is closer in both size and distance to Mary Tarn than to Lake Louisa.

I'm a-wondering if that might be Oana at the back. Or maybe Layatinna. But I'm going to take a stab at Malbena, as the view iis somehow strangely familiar (although a far better image than I got of the place).

I am further west than that NNW. I don't think the hill/mt in view has a name. Although there is a very well known one behind me.

With clues like that we're not talking about Rim Lake - are we?
Fri 18 Jan, 2019 2:18 pm
Rim! That's why it looks so familiar.
Fri 18 Jan, 2019 2:27 pm
Yep
It's Rim Lake.
Over to Eggs.

Looking at Cuvier and the Eldons from...ummm...Ida???
Fri 18 Jan, 2019 3:43 pm
No - though I could see Ida from this peak

Byron?
Fri 18 Jan, 2019 4:40 pm
Yes - I was on Byron

I was there this week, but couldn't get the angles to match!

I can never get the angles to match, but sometimes the obvious answer is the right one - even with eggs.

Howells Bluff?
Fri 18 Jan, 2019 7:15 pm
You're not a million miles off.
Don't think this spot has a name, but it is close to something that does. Close to a number of somethings, in fact.
Fri 18 Jan, 2019 7:49 pm
Down a bit east from King David's Peak - on the eastern edge
Sat 19 Jan, 2019 8:08 am
Closer, but still not right.
Sat 19 Jan, 2019 4:08 pm
That little lookout spot as you're passing through the many jewels of King Solomon?
Sat 19 Jan, 2019 5:09 pm
Further away now.
I could give you a clue, but then I'd have to kill you, baby.

Are you somewhere on Mt Moriah? A search shows this is a place of sacrifice or something like that and may fit with what you've just said. Also the angles are about right.
Sat 19 Jan, 2019 7:14 pm
Still too far. eggs was the closest. Very close, in fact.
Sat 19 Jan, 2019 8:16 pm
I’m guessing around one of the gates? Herrods?
Sat 19 Jan, 2019 8:33 pm
But where in relation to Herods Gate?
Sat 19 Jan, 2019 9:49 pm
Maybe on the other side of wild dog Creek Valley from Herod's? That rise just before you drop into the valley?

Maybe up on top of the rise on the eastern side of the gate?
Edit: Looking at the list I see that’s where WFBW was talking about

On or near Solomons Throne?
Sun 20 Jan, 2019 8:18 am
I love the way you're all dancing around what I would have thought would be the obvious answer. I am neither east nor west nor south of Herods, which doesn't leave many options, but enough is enough. This is from the northern side, the western high point of the ridge leading over to Ophel.
Here:
devoswitch was the first to think of Herods, so I'll throw it over to him.

Thanks NNW, very generous of you. This one shouldn’t be too hard. I’ll be away from phone until later tonight so if anyone feels confident in the answer please feel free to go.

To narrow things down, are we looking down the Forth Valley to Mt Roland?
