Correct, you are wrong. The pic is in the Alpine National Park a fair way from Cobbler.

The lump itself looks a bit like what I remember of the approach to Bogong West Peak from the other (non-Bogong side). Otherwise I can't match it to anything I've done that people would generally carry a full pack over.

Lumps wins. The party is going from the track over Bogong to Quartz Knob, west over West Peak, then north for a steep, slithering descent to Mountain Creek. I cannot say where on the descent it was taken, but it's high.

Well gee golly gosh. That's a fun little walk, although I did it in the other direction, which was a lot easier on the knees. Steep and slithery indeed.

Still in the no-man's-land between Tassie and NSW. I overnighted near here ten years ago. Name the nearest landmark.

Closer.

You can actually drive to this point (with a 4WD). And it was a barrel of laughs.

Which one? Not that it matters, because It's not that either.
Looks like this is going to take a while. Might just sit back with the brandy . . .

Indeed, Mt St Bernard it is, a lovely little spot to park for a night just off the AAWT. Over to you, jonnosan (which means we're diving back into NSWiana, but we southerners have had a good run).

I'm sure I've been here but scratching to place it.
I kinda think it could be the Kanimbla Valley near Mt Vic. but that's probably more than 10 km from Solitary.
Regardless, maybe about to descend Reinits Pass or Little Zig Zag?

No. The first 2 guesses were closer (split the difference and youd be almost spot on)

Ah, I walked out along Radiata Plateau to near Megalong head a few weeks ago, but didn't take a side trip here.
I'd say you are looking at the Megalong Valley about to descend into Nellies Glen. Maybe from one of the lookouts - Norths, Therabulat? Assume the "pass" is the Six foot Track?

Johnw is close enough. Yes thats radiata plateau on the right and megalong valley below. Narrowneck on the left and I descended by bottleneck pass.

Over to you, johnw.

Thanks, I knew it had to be in that locale somewhere. Staying in NSW, looking for my location:

I can't quit place the distant range, although 95% sure its somewhere in the greater blue mountains area. Brown Dog Ridge perhaps?
