A bit more investigation on sixmaps showing survey marks and aligning the background lead to search for TS1490CLIFF and a post from some bloke calling himself Tyreless on geocaching

Yes, Cliff trig.

No coincidence about the geocaching bloke. I understand that he is a fine, handsome, upstanding chap.

It's difficult finding places to walk that haven't been burnt out, but there's still a lot in Ku-ring-gai Chase to explore and return to.

Over to you, crollsurf!

Thanks Tyreless, Ku-ring-gai Chase is in my backyard but I got a bit of catching up to do. I still have a few tracks I haven't even walked yet, let alone going offtrack.
More NSW in my backyard.

Towlers Lookout. I believe there is a geocache located on the right hand side of that photograph that was placed there (with permission from NPWS) by fine, handsome, upstanding chap.

Towlers Lookout it is. Found a few geocaches in my time, maybe I'll join 1 day.
I noticed you are a member of SBW. Just a warning, I signed up as a prospective member today so I may meet this fine handsome upstanding chat you keep mentioning one day.

Thanks Tyreless

This one is Tasmania, and not exactly a trig, but there is a geocache nearby.

Thanks jonnosan. I have a similar shot, minus the tarp, from a few years back.
Some nice walking around the South Wellington area, away from the crowds.

This might be harder, NSW:

the ridges in the background look vaguely upper blue mountains but I can't match the flora in the foreground to anywhere. to keep things moving, will put a few chips down on breakfast creek.

Not in the Blueys. This is about 95 km SSE of Breakfast Creek/Carlon Creek.

Not Starlights, still too far west. For a further clue I'm about 38 km SE of Point Hill.
I climbed up beside a series of small waterfalls to get here. No way I could have done so yesterday, or probably even today.

Looks like you may have gone SW instead of SE from Point Hill. From roughly the midpoint of Bangadilly Creek it's about 55 km ESE to my location.
This is essentially below an escarpment area not all that far from the coast.

Good enough Tyreless. Looking back from where I've just arrived above the upper Cascades at Macquarie Pass.
Found a circuit route via this creek eventually walking back down the Illawarra Hwy to the start.
Negotiating that road on foot was far more hairy than climbing up the cascades.

At last my misspent youth at high school proves useful.

Back to the topic of trigs. These photos are of a structure constructed around 1807 as a navigational device but later proving useful as a trig. NSW.
