Yes Fat Canyoner, it is almost certainly a silage pit, there are many down on the plains eg the former McCarthys Farm at Cranebrook. Unfortunately nowhere as romantic as a convict dungeon. So, well spotted Jonnosan, over to you, the world will be watching the state of your post.

I took this on the weekend just passed - its a spot many on here will have visited but looks very different to when I had seen it last.

yes I am. there was previously a bridge over Galong creek and a number of buildings have also gone.

Do you mean the really old farmhouse that was in the valley to the right of your picture, it had a tall bangalow palm tree near it? Called Green Gully I think.

there is still an old building in the valley in front of me (across the creek) but all the buildings between the old "packsaddlers" gate and the old bridge have gone.

GregG and FatCanyoner, your comments are very reasonable and mine was not. Greg, your “still in NSW” provoked my mock angst—STILL??? OF COURSE!!! I hope you interpreted my off-shore islands reference as the attempt at mild sarcastic humour it was.

FatCanyoner, I certainly do not want anyone to refrain from posting an answer when they know one. I try to answer, but usually fail, at identifying shots from my home state, as well as the very small parts of SA and NSW I have visited. (But I have some NSW photographs that I have chosen not to post because I know the game will probably then be stuck in that state for some time.)

In the back of my mind was the question of whether the forum needs state/territory based games, rather than just one for Tasmania and one for the remainder of the continent. That seems rather ridiculous, at least on the surface, but I don’t know that the demographics of our membership makes another system workable.

Peregrinator, I totally understand your frustration. I've been around for a little while. Since before these long standing photo games were launched, based on the popular Tassie where-am-I game.
From the start the thinking for the Aussie game was that NSW would likely dominate as the major population centre, with a corresponding numbers of bushwalkers. ViC and QLD probably next largest, then SA, ACT, NT, WA (not in any specific order). All states/territories have some wonderful bushwalking locations but the tyranny of distance tends to limit visitation for many of us.
Over the years the number of active Aussie photo game players has dwindled, regardless of state, although NSW still tends to dominate. I don't have a lot of photos from outside NSW, with the exception of Tasmania. Most others are from QLD; I have very few from VIC and almost none from elsewhere. I do try to post outside NSW where I can but often find that when I do the game virtually grinds to a halt. I almost always have to provide copious clues to get any response at all, and more often than not the ubiquitous eggs is the player who finally answers (probably to put me out of my misery ). I've had some success getting player input from VIC by posting from the NSW Snowy Mountains region. Many Victorian bushwalkers seem to know the area, I guess being relatively close to Melbourne and possibly because the AAWT traverses VIC, NSW and the ACT. In the past it was felt that separate games for each state would not be sustainable, hence the current format. You could always propose that option to the site owner if you think it can work.

Seriously people, NSW is fine. The games are slowing down, and I am pretty sure the comment was partly in jest. We will just have to put up with some longer periods of twiddling our thumbs till we are told what part of a sandstone cliff face we are looking at.

Lucky I don’t know how to resize because ALL my pic are from NSW...and only a relatively small part at that!

I’m up there with the keenest of bushwalkers just not a very well traveled one. I love my own backyard too much.

PS If anyone on here feels the need to expand my horizons and shout me a trip to Tassie or NZ, I’m definitely in!!
