Thanks cajun, I hadn't noticed until you mentioned it. For someone who is very quiet in real life that surprises me a little.

Hmm, it might have something to do with Royal National Park Station having closed in the 1990s.

I was thinking RNP also. Apparently there was a scout camp platform there. But what looks like cabbage palm debris is confusing me, as you get those mainly around places like Palm Jungle, Forest Island etc - areas of littoral rainforest. Lilyvale? I guess it's more likely but I can't find anything on it either.

Often surprises me too, no matter how many times I've been there. Thanks cajun but ribuck mentioned Lilyvale first, so should go next.

If by some chance eggs has not quite been everywhere yet, any place he's missed can probably expect a visit soon.

Indeed, eggs has been there.

It is in the West Macdonnell NP, icefest, but not near Standley Chasm. The camera was being held level for this shot, by the way.

Gosh guys - I have not been everywhere - nor will I get everywhere. NNW seems closest to that mantle.
On the LHS - out of view the cliff face will be steeper forming a deep V as the river channel.
I believe the name I had for this place was unofficial - so I think you will need to reference the point were you turn off to go up it.
Note - I have only written one trip report from the NT.

Clearly eggs recognises the place, but wants someone else to work it out. The place has two unofficial names, one given by Dot Butler, and a government-named spot is very close.

I'll post a wide-angle shot if it's not guessed tonight. And no, it's not Ormiston Gorge. It's a short distance off the main tourist circuit.

Who knows, who's counting, who cares? All I know is that you've both contributed many beautiful images here, adding great value to the site. Often from places I ain't been to, nor ever likely to get to.

The clue was to check out my report.
I had called this place Waterfall valley - but it lies north from Bowmans Gap.

How far up to the waterfall face did you get Ribuck?

It's also known as Canyon of the Thirteen Pools, and is the watercourse that drains into Bowmans Gap from slightly north of east.

eggs wrote:How far up to the waterfall face did you get Ribuck?

It was 1980s, so I don't remember exactly, but I do remember climbing over the same scree slope that you did. We then climbed to the top and camped overnight on the top of Red Walls. It was a dodgy climb (easy to dislodge massive boulders), and I probably wouldn't do it again, given that there are two better ways to get there (using the next-north minor creek to gain the northern ridge then crossing over above the waterfall, or entering the northern efflux of the massif).

On doing a search, I see that eggs has himself posted this valley twice to this game (once in 2013, once in 2017). I hope to visit it again this autumn, so I'll try my hardest not to post it again so soon :)

And, by the way, we know that NNW hasn't been there, because one crosses Ormiston Pound to get there, and we know that NNW is uninspired by the Pound...

Over to you, eggs.

I think it's either the summit of Mt Blackhorse or possibly the lower peak of Mt Mouin
