Same with me. It only brought up half the photo on the desktop but the whole thing on mobile...

On the desktop, a right-click then "View Image" works for me.

Are you on Mt Haughton, looking across to Hoddles Castle Hill?

Thanks Huntsman. I've never been to where you took your photo from, but I've been close and I worked it out from the contours on OpenCycleMap.

This photo is not far away from yours. Our group only got half-way up due to lack of time, but it looks like it goes and I was surprised how well-worn the route was.

Ribuck, I think many of us may have had a go at that one. Fun scramble. I think wfbw has got it, right? That's just after you come off of tarn on the way to that long ridge that leads you off it.

You're close, fatboy. It's not below Mt Tarn, but it's a few km away. We were walking from Corang Rock Ribs to Hidden Valley - but not via Mt Tarn. We took the off-track option, which is why we didn't have time to fully-explore this interesting pass.

After Huntsman chimed in, I started to doubt myself, because I know that Huntsman knows the Budawangs thoroughly. But no, the photo's GPS coordinates and my GPX track for the trip (plus Google's satellite view) confirm that my photo is a similar feature on a different mountain.

I was thinking the backside of Cole and Owen but ribuck mentioned a while back there is a sneak up the side of Owen. If that's the case... this was before that.

Hang on. It's Nibelung Pass?

Now that you mention it, I can see why you suggested that. But it isn't. This one is closer to Mt Tarn, and not on the Monolith Valley side.

It's got to be Haughton then if not tarn. Just after the saddle from tarn if walking to hidden valley. My memory can't be that foggy [FACE WITH TEARS OF JOY]

I've wondered whether it might be feasible to link the cascades with the northern parts off track.... looks scrubby, but have no first hand knowledge (and is likely all burnt now). Hoddle maybe?

Now's the time to make a route. At least it won't be scrub bashing.

It sure is scrubby, but after working hard for five hours we reached Hoddle for a late lunch. But the photo is not on Hoddle. You can see our route through the scrub here:

I was getting worried there Ribuck. :'-)
Although the 2 are pretty similar.

OK since the Budawangs are the hot topic (no pun intended) here's another one.

Where is this pass? And for bonus points what POI is just at the top of the pass?Image

Could be a number of places..... reminds me of near the caves at burumbeet. Since there's a point of interest at the top I'll go with the eastern access to quiltys, and the POI being the Bora ground?

Unfortunately not quiltys. However, maybe my question was misleading. There's a POI but it's not as big as say the borra grounds.

Is it Watson Pass, with the POI being a small length of chain down the first drop?

[Edit: or, perhaps the POI you're asking for is the camping cave at the top left of your photo]

It's not watsons, nor is it on that rock mass. It's not a well known pass, as in it's not on the sketch map.
My question is, there's a CC at the top of watsons?

Not at the top, one near (but not at) the bottom I think

The one I know of is a good 500m ssw of the pass at watsons.
Is there one closer you know off wfbw?

The sketch map shows three arrows off the words "Watsons Pass", going all the way down to Camping Rock Creek. The camping cave is marked on the sketch map where Watsons Pass passes through the lower cliff line. Sleeps 6 to 8, from memory.

Yup sounds about right. But the pic is probably a good day or so from watsons if your keen.
