Sorry fat boy, it's not Mt Cole.

It's not Dadder Cave, jonnosan, although it is somewhere in the Blue Mountains.

wildwanderer wrote:... isnt that guy standing in the fire or is it just his laces

Despite the sunshine and the guy wearing a T-shirt, it was a bitterly cold June day, and the altitude is over 1000 metres. The guy standing as close to the smoke as he can is trying to glean some warmth from the fire. In fact, that guy is me when I was in Year 12 in 1975.

Here's a shot which was taken 10 metres away, facing west:

if you are facing west in the 2nd photo you must be on the north side of a river flowing east.
The only area in the Blue Mountains I can think of where you are over 1000m ASL above a river flowing east is the kanangra area above the Kowmung. But I cant match either photo with the caves I know (Dance Hall, Coal Seam, 100 man, 1000 man).

So i got nothing.

There's not much of a river below the mist, jonnosan. A couple of creeks, some bush and a bit of farmland. Not near Kanangra.

It's in the upper Blue Mountains, puredingo, but not in the vicinity of narrowneck.

There is another camping overhang less than 500 metres away. These caves are 20 minutes walk from a pub and a railway station.

I believe the latest photo is Sundeck Cave, Mt Piddington, in which case Pulpit Rock is in the middle distance in the 2nd photo and Kanimbla valley is down in the mist.

Absolutely correct on all counts, jonnosan. And the original photo is very close to the dirt road that leads to Mt Piddington.

That would be Leura Falls near the start/end of the Lindeman Pass

flora and rock both remind me of north side of Mt Hay, can't place a specific pass or objective though

I'll pay that jonnosan, I am descending the north side of Mt Hay. I don't think the pass has a name.
I'm headed for Venus Tor, which is not too far out of view to the right.
