Thanks Stef. The lighting conditions stars aligned at that moment, aided by in-camera and external filters.

Not in the Terrace Falls precinct, or North Lawson/Hazelbrook. But you aren't far away.
The falls are named and on a popular track.

Thanks, must be a decade now I have had that area on my todo list. Remember walking from Woodford, missing the St Helena turnoff and ran out of time to walk back. 20+km of the most boring fire trail to Glenbrook. Doh

OK, not exactly the right answer, but close. So I'll take it so we can try a different state for a while, namely VIC. Continuing with the rocky theme. This photograph is taken from a named location, viewing a named feature. Identify both.

My thought was actually Mackeys Peak in the Grampians (top of the Elephant Hide).
No idea why I called it Mack's peak???????? Brain fade from too much isolation

Not Mackeys. And not The Pinnacle, which is probably what you were calling The Sentinel. There's one of the latter in Mt Buffalo NP, as well as a Macks Point. But I should have known that someone with your experience would not have identified this as that type of habitat. With or without 'too much isolation'.

OK, this is the Grampians. (Where they somehow manage to hide elephants.)

The Sentinel is the un tracked peak on the left as you arrive at Halls Gap from Ararat or Stawell and before Fyans Creek bridge.

I beg your pardon. Did not know that one. If I do happen to arrive at Halls Gap, I'm in a hurry to get out of it, I suppose.

I do know Chatauqua, but this is not it.

It's a good way west of Wonderland.

Keep going further west. I said the two locations were 'named' but have now checked topos and no names appear on these. So this gets back to localised reporting of walks and books that may be out of print. So clues will follow.

Eggs, your presumption proves to be correct.

One might find innumerable 'hollow' mountains / hills in the Grampians.
