That's right, John.
Thanks Graham.

Mt Blackheath, looking across Kanimbla valley towards the Cox's river?

Not too far away, but not Mt Blackheath or Kanimbla Valley. I am looking in the direction of the Coxs R. Come to think of it Mt Blackheath is a spot I've yet to visit but I'd guess the view would have similarities.

Narrow Neck, near Carlon Head maybe

Not Carlon Head or anywhere on Narrow Neck as such. Both guesses so far are each about 9 km from this spot but in different directions. I'm quite close to civilisation.

Going off your hints johnw, it looks like it must be Cahills Lookout

That makes sense, given the burnt out scrub in the foreground.

So close, this is probably less visited. Cahills is just out of view to my left...

Radiata Plateau then

jonnosan wrote:Radiata Plateau then
Not Radiata, getting colder. This is effectively on the same plateau as Cahills LO and probably no more than a 10 minute walk from there.
I found a couple of short tracks at this location but the map only shows one.

Perhaps Norths Lookout

Not Norths Lookout. Cahills LO is very, very close. Other guesses are getting colder. SIX Maps is your friend

Thanks John. I think I know how Steven Bradbury felt.
Where, in NSW, is this poignant memorial?

I remember randomly seeing this on a run after work one day - admit I needed Google to refresh me on the name of the area (rock outcrop opposite Martins Lookout - Edit: Google tells me its called 'Lost Worlds Lookout')

That's right, MM. This is the complementary plaque at Martins Lookout. He must have been a wonderful chap.

Yeah I had meant to look up the story of this fellow but never did - glad I have now!
Staying in NSW where is this?
Wed 16 May, 2018 11:39 am
Cox's?
Wed 16 May, 2018 2:42 pm
No this watercourse actually runs the other way. And being a bit of a pedant I'd like not just the water course but the defined area, main feature nearby or even better the actual spot I'm standing on the side of (it has a name).
Thu 17 May, 2018 11:22 am
It seems I may have scared everybody off with my pedantry......
Reason why I didn't want just the watercourse is because its over 600km long. I admit we didn't have to do any excessive bushwalking to get to this location - vehicles used to actually drive on the short 'walking track' we took to get there back in the day........

Are we along the Macquarie River?

Monaghans Bluff on the Bridal Trail

Yes crollsurf has it (with eggs as the shoulders). Although not known for much recent recreational bushwalking the area has a lot of historical significance (lots of bushwalking back in the day!)

Thanks MM. I'll try and walk that next time I'm up that way. Another from NSW
