You're in the right National Park, but the wrong peak.
This is an all too popular name - I've climbed at least four other lumps with the same name, and two of them are also in Victoria.

Spion Kopje? I climbed it once in summer in thick fog, and have skied over it, cannot recall what it looked like.

That would match the clues Lop..
Which one did you have in mind?

Sorry, should have said, near Tali Karng.

Yers, you should. Be fun area to ski.
Oh yeah, that's the right one. I wonder why there was this fascination with that war.

Thanks. It's a very remote region, takes ages from the cars, and the snowline is variable. One trip we parked at Tamboritha Saddle, good snow on the road, even better on Reynard. The return journey the next day saw only small drifts to the Moroka Road. Staying in southern NSW (as it was then known), now called Victoria.

I didn't know they had colour photography when it was called southern NSW Lops?

It was shot on a 12" glass plate, hand coloured. The tripod was quite heavy, but it was okay as I had a mule.

To start the guessing, somewhere on the Bogong high plains? Heading towards Mt. Cope maybe?

Re: Game: Where-is-it (Aussie)

Wed 07 Nov, 2018 7:54 pm

High Plains yes, and if you walk on this ridge and follow the poles you get to near Mount Cope. It's maybe three hours from Cope Summit.

WAG - coming over the fainter somewhere?

That side of the Bogong High Plains, maybe three hours away.

Somewhere near Fitzgerald's or Kelly's Hut?

Re: Game: Where-is-it (Aussie)

Miles away. It's on the western side of the high plains. Go up for a while and there are good views of Feathertop, Loch and Hotham.

This appears pretty tough - but the clues are generous.
I have not been down to Young's Hut, but my experience in the rest of that area does not register with the photo view.
So maybe near Young's Hut?

Re: Game: Where-is-it (Aussie)

Getting a lot closer. Note that Youngs Hut no longer exists. This hut was above the SEC huts, only one of which remain. There's a picture on the wall of the SEC Hut showing three or four small huts slightly downslope of the SEC Hut.

I do not know that bloke. However, I can give another clue: southish of Mount Jim, and northish of Omeo. Also, for those that like cryptic clues, you can use the place to make a fence.

Paling Spur walking track?

Re: Game: Where-is-it (Aussie)

Sun 11 Nov, 2018 11:02 am

Close enough. This is the plateau and shallow saddle at the top of Paling Spur looking northish, near 203079. From the river there's no track until around here. The track you see continues to the ridge where a plethora of feral horse tracks go west and north to the SEC hut pole line and pole 267. The scrub is quite nice all the way from the river. I thought that the fence clue would bring results. All yours.

Magdala looking at the Crosscut, with male homosexual activity just out of frame on the left. Altitude about 1300 metres and the day of the week when the pic was taken ends in "y".

Re: Game: Where-is-it (Aussie)

Crosscut it is and if I recall correctly standing on picture point. Yes the day did end in "y" and still does.
Altitude......you're estimate is 300 plus metres too low Lops.
As for activities beyond the left margin of the picture...no sexual activites of any persuasion that I was aware of.

Your go Lops.

You are generous - Picture Point is miles away from Magdala. (There's that Miles Away bloke again!) I should have thought of Picture Point, no matter, I can plead senile decay. Still in Victoria.
