There is a chain at the end of Standley Chasm to prevent onward travel - but it was not there when we visited with the kids in 2007.
It was a bit of a scramble following what I would believe would be the old Larapinta route - including climbing a fallen log and popping up through a chock stone near the top.
However, there is no chain at the other end where the diverted track comes back into the valley again - so when I was there again I wandered back to the chockstone part for another look.
Worth the effort.

Sadly, there was a chain there in May 2018.

Just got back from walking, so I'll put this one up. Name the river and bridge in Vic.

Correct, johnw. Looking north from Deddick Track. Difficult to imagine what this would have looked like in the 1970 flood. Water reached the bridge decking, 18 metres above the ground.

I wonder when they did that. Definitely not there on my first two visits, and when I did the Larapinta (2013) I was aiming for Brinkley so didn't hang around beyond getting water. Pity, because that chockstone section eggs mentioned was one of the best things about Standley.

Way too cold. Dead Horse Gap track was much closer, but this is accessed from a different location.
We are descending to a well known feature in a mid-summer snowstorm.

Rainbow Lake it is, although not below Mt Duncan. Well it is back down the hill from it somewhat, so in a general sense I guess it is. I've climbed Duncan which is close to Porcupine Rocks about 9 km from Rainbow Lake. All yours NNW.

Well, I went from Duncan to Rainbow hence dragging the former into the discussion. Which is probably why I don''t remember the track being that well defined because it was part pad and part off-track between the two, and the walk out from Rainbow was the only bit on a proper track...

You shouldn't have told me that. Never thought of it before but now I'm poring over the map trying to invent an interesting day hike circuit between them

Pre GPS so I can't help much with the planning. Can't even find the map I used. Memory says the loop included Porcupine Rocks, but we know how (un)reliable my memory can be.

Come on mates, don't try to do a number on me. This one can't be that hard!

WAG - Cleft Peak?

I can see Cleft . . . hmmm, I should have specified that this was meant as a Where Am I? But given that Cleft is in the photo (along with a few others, maybe I should pay it. What's the consensus?

Well, the title of this thread is "where is it", so I reckon you can pay that.

btw, I was on Cobberas One, looking over Middle and Cleft to somewhere north of the border.

I had a suspicion that Cleft might have been further along. I am unfamiliar with the Cobberas.

NNW - just curious - but I suspect your Cobberas 1 shot is actually looking south. Cleft is probably not in view.
Otherwise we should be seeing the Pilot and the Main range.

It's not me in the photo, but ... for Central Australia it makes no sense to wear dark coloured gaiters, because they get very hot in the sun. If I found some sand-coloured gaiters that weren't too heavy I would definitely buy them.

Is possible. It's a bit dark isn't it? All I can say for sure is that it was taken on top of Cobberas 1.

Yep agreed regarding the heat - so much so I usually just go for the free acupuncture option when wandering around the NT.
