Calna Creek bridge updates?

Postby skibug » Wed 17 Sep, 2014 11:59 am

Hey everyone,

Does anyone know the latest for the Calna Creek bridge repair - it's now been 18 months since it broke in half, the local camp that was offering a punt service was told to cease because of National Park regulations, the alternative track which everyone uses to cross at low tide is gradually causing deterioration to a local wetland - and still no news! I'd be interested to know if anyone has some information about a timetable or funding proposal.

Thanks in advance,

Skibug.

Well, first you have to develop a plan.
Then you have to consult with all the vocal locals to see whose toes you may be treading on.
Then you have to put the project into the estimates for next year.
Then you have to get the budget allocated.
Then you have to find a contractor who is stupid enough to take on the job.
Then you have to qualify the contractor so he doesn't upset the vocal locals.
Then you have to go through all the paper work to get approvals
Then you have to ...

Get the idea?

Cheers
Roger

This bridge is steel not repaired? Wow, thats ridiculous, after all this time, and typical parks service. I honestly think the parks service is degrading our parks and making it harder for us to visit.

I was down at Calna Creek this morning after a gentle walk from Crosslands (testing repairs to my ankle) and found that there are solid barriers across the track on the southern side, what seems to be cyclone fencing on the northern side and there are depth markers placed in the creek at a marked crossing place about 20 metres downstream from the bridge, with a newly formed track on the southern side leading steeply down to the new crossing.

With all this work to ensure that the bridge access is blocked and marking a new ford surely it would have been easier just to replace the bridge? :?
