Campground at Mt Trickett?

Postby christophermoore » Mon 20 Jun, 2016 6:44 pm

Hi all,

I'm planning a bike ride between Lithgow and Mittagong over 3 days. The second night's camping can be had easily at Wombeyan Caves, but I'm struggling to find a campsite for the first night. It would ideally be at the top of the hill out of Jenolan Caves. Lo and behold, I found a marked "camping ground" at MGA760527, but I'm not sure whether to trust the map.

Has anyone checked it out before?

The alternative seems to be to camp somewhere along Kanangra Rd.

Cheers,
Chris

All good with that campsite Chris. It is definitely there.

What route are you taking? There might be better options.

Thanks for the confirmation John.

This is the route I took last time.

This time I think we'll deviate near the Mt Trickett campsite - head down Kanangra Rd for a bit, turn onto the Kowmung River fire trail, cross the Kowmung, pass the Dingo Dell campground, and pop up on Banshea Rd to meet the previous route on the Colong-Oberon stock route.

When I did it in two days we camped at the Mt Werong hut, which is pretty much perfectly halfway.

No problems Chris.

You could camp at the Kowmung River if you are going that way. When are you planning on going as the river will be very high with all of the rain we are having.

Have you been along your proposed route in a vehicle before. The climb out of Dingo Dell is very steep.
