Yabbra NP/State Forest

Postby Chloe10000 » Sun 12 Mar, 2017 2:08 pm

Has anyone ever walked in Yabbra NP?
I once drove through on forestry tracks - the scenery and birdlife were amazing and I would be keen to do some walking there simply to better experience the forest. On the NSW Parks management plan it simply states that there is no demand for walking tracks or visitor facilities.
Great to hear of any ideas for walks in the Park.

I've been mooching nearby in the Toonumbar & Richmond Range NP's...
but not in Yabbra.
Some NP's rarely feel the boots of bushwalkers...couldn't find much on the
web, so you'll might have to explore the area yourself & make up your
own mind...happy exploring, Chloe10000.
Mountain views are good for my soul...& getting to them is good for my waistline !

Looking @ my maps....some possible walks.

Callawajune Mt. Return trip.

Spur Management trail then drop down into
the headwaters of Haystack Ck. Round trip

Mt Haystack comms tower to Bald Knob comms tower,
then explore further south along the cliff line. Return.

Yabbra Ck looks like it has some nice looking gorges to explore.

Now you've got me interested in the area....enjoy your time there.

Curiosity got the better of me, so i went for a
road trip down there today.
Nice relaxing loop via the Clarence Way(or the cobblestone way
as i like to call it...so many patches on the road surface.☺) on the
east side returning via the winding Paddy's Flat rd(dirt) in the west,
plus a few side trips. ;) ..in reality access might be the biggest issue to this NP.

Eastern side of range, picturesque, rainforested slopes,
water in creeks, rolling hills & farmers paddocks.
Access via tree plantation roads or management trails.
West side, wilderness, dry Sclerophyll forest,
steep gulleys & dry creek beds except for the Clarence river or one
of its major tributaries.
Access over private land.

2 accomadation/ camp grounds on the west side
may have walk/access info.
Clarence River Wilderness Lodge & Lanikai nature retreat
or phone Parks in Kyogle.

I did find one access point....walk or cycle from here.

Others were too soft & muddy & chewed up for my 2wd.
The stumpy Barina I was driving came in handy as 20 point turns
were needed at times to turnaround & head back out. :)

Oh, and the rainforest sections were alive with Bellbirds calls....

Lots of 'Off Track' volcanic peaks to wander up
in the general area....don't bother with Buckingham Hill though...thought it might give a great view of Mt Callawajune
but the summit was covered in trees so no clean viewing point.

Hi Ofuros - Thank you for the feedback! We drove in via South Yabbra Rd and out via Joe's Box Road (were a bit lost by that time!). It is a beautiful area - I love the white gums. I found a description for Mt Callawajuneat https://www.alltrails.com/explore/recor ... awajune--2 . Also like your idea for Yabbra Ck. Many Thanks
