Hi
I'm new to the forum. My wife and I are visiting Mudgee for a three day weekend next month and are looking for a decent full day walk in the area. Looking for any suggestions within about an hours drive or so from Mudgee

Any tips would be most welcome

Thanks
Dan

Hi Dan, Unfortunately there is not a great deal of walking within an hour of Mudgee. I reckon the best would be Fern Tree Gully at Growee about an hour from town. Not a full day walk but a very pleasant hour or so down in a deep gully with lots of rainforest and not very many visitors. Otherwise there is The Drip about 45 min. north of town, or Dunns Swamp about 1.5 hours away, neither of which offer a real full day walk.

Thanks for the suggestions Lindsay
So if we ventured further afield, say 2-3 hours? Any more options in that case

Dan

Yes, 2-3 hours will take you to the Blue Mountains NP where there is a good range of day walks to be found.

+1. Also the Warrumbungles are about 2 1/2 hours from Mudgee, some nice options there but check for track closures first.

Gardens of Stone National Park is the closest by far. Not familiar with walks there though. A few on this forum should be able to give you some advice on that area.

Cheers.

Munghorn Gap NR has a short (2h) walk to Castle Rocks - only about 20-30min drive from Mudgee

There is a lot of walking in northern Wollemi NP, but it's largely off track, so not that good unless you are somewhat familiar with the area. Dunns Swamp is probably best - there are a number of short easy walks. Otherwise, stop in the Blue Mountains on the way through, assuming you are coming from that direction.

'Bungles, great time of year, walk up Bluff Mtn, round the high tops and bread knife . Well marked tracks and great views, stay up after dusk with head torches for full star value. Donkey Mtn in the wolgan is gold to.
