Mt Victoria- acacia flats campsite- govetts leap lookout

Hi guys, been reading conflicting reports about this hike, maybe there old, I mainly want to know if anyone has done this hike recently?, is it well signed, if not well signed, is it pretty straight forward, and is track in good condition? Thanks!!

Great walk. Did it about 6 months ago. Parts I wouldn't call well signed but easy enough to follow. The main tips would be to cross the creek at Burra Korain and head downstream for a 100m and then cross back. The track on the other side has slid and a lot of people go up and around the slide. Hard work and slippery gravelly, not safe. Also the first steep bit after walking from Acacia Flats, the track turns off to the right up the ridge a bit and is easy enough to miss. Other than that, not a problem.

Also avoid taking water from the Grose River, plenty of people do but I've heard otherwise. Source from side creeks if you can.

Tks heaps for those tips Croll, good to know and the water tip aswell, I have a sawyer water filter, be going solo next week , bit nervous about going by myself, but keen to give it a go!

I'd say this is one of the better places to walk solo. There is a track all the way. If you find yourself without a track, don't just "press on regardless" but backtrack a little (or cross Burra Korain Creek as crollsurf mentioned) until you relocate the track.

If you're doing it as an overnighter, take insect repellent. If you're doing it as a (long) day trip, start early!

I did it last year in September. The walk isn't well signed, but it's not too hard. The key spots are
- the creek crossing just below Victoria Falls
- the double creek crossing at Burra Korain (see crollsurf comment)
- don't stay too high at the Pierces Pass turnoff (sketchy ledge/slope)
- picking up the right track at Junction Rock

It's probably nicer camping at Little Blue Gum rather than Acacia Flat. The water from the Grose is contaminated with heavy metals, so I'd suggest not drinking it even with a filter. I found water at the very small creek just past Little Blue Gum. Also, Hordern Gully and Crayfish Creek should have water.

Glad you had a good time.

I remember my first time reaching the base of Govetts Leap.. thinking how on earth can there be a trail up that... but sure enough there is. I actually found the section between juntion rock and the base of the Govetts more challenging on my fitness than winding up the cliff face. Cliff face is short and intense.. while the lower area is long uphill slog. (pretty trail though)

The first time I reached the base of Govetts Leap (with a friend on my first real bushwalk: Mt Vic to Blackheath in a day) we "realised" that there couldn't possibly be a trail up it.

So we turned around, went back to Junction Rock (at which point the sun set), turned right and exited the valley up the Horse Track in the dark without a torch. Ahh, the follies of youth.
