Fire in Royal NP

Postby jrg » Sun 21 Jan, 2018 9:34 am

The RFS fire map shows that a huge park of the Royal National Park has been affected already by yesterday's fire:

I'm not surprised - I drove up the Hume Highway yesterday afternoon and the smoke was thick even driving near Wilton/Picton. I'm glad everyone is safe, but I suspect some tracks and parts of the park are going to be closed for a while.

Appears to be arson, with several fires starting in a very short time.

Yes .. closed for sometime.
But once open there will be some new views.
And when the regrowth starts there maybe some other interesting views.

Take your cameras.

(Not that I condone the lighting of fires - particularly at this time of year! I do think there should be more patchwork fires conducted, under controlled conditions - these have lead to the landscapes we have and do discourage invasive plants.)
