Mountain Lagoon/Bells line of Rd to Colo

Postby Chunder fuzz » Wed 19 Sep, 2018 11:56 am

Looking at Six maps and last time I went, the maps/GPS suggested going along Mountain Lagoon Trail from Bells Line of Rd to join on to Comelroy Rd.

Does anyone know if the Trail is a reasonably well graded fire trail/dirt or a rough 4wd track or something in between? I have a 4wd but I was looking for the quickest way to get from Bells Line of Rd to Colo for a planned 'fast pack' of a route (or attempt at at least).

I drove it at the beginning of June and it was very well graded.

It is not a 'fast road'. Too narrow and poor lines of sight.
But it is a short cut, watch out for others.
A reasonable dirt road, 2WD.

Great, thanks.

Does it end up being a 'short cut' time wise given the slower conditions?

If you are going to Colo then it may be just as easy to stick to the tar and go via Kurrajong. Turn left onto Comleroy Road just before Kurmond then right onto Blaxlands Ridge Road. I have used the fire trail to get to Colo Heights but it is not very quick. That was in a V8 Commodore and it really did not save me much time.

Thanks, aim was Colo Heights, up to Culoul Fire Trail. Might just stick to the black top then.

Might be better. After the crossing the Colo the road gets much slower for the climb to Colo Heights. Culoul trail should be good and it is a nice walk down to the Wollemi.
