Florence Head Morton NP

Postby mirv2535 » Sat 20 Jul, 2019 1:45 pm

Hi wondering if anyone knows if there is a pass that leads off Florence Head and links to the Kingiman Road?

Have you taken a look at this resource?

I've only taken a brief look but it might contain info on a pass near Florence head.

Yes there is and quite a gentle one at that.

Just before you reach the termination of the Florence Head FT track west for a spell, before long you will be at the cliff line where there is an obvious break of crumbled boulders. Hop down this fairly gently ramp, turn left and 15 minutes later say hello to the Kingiman FT.

But the Rusden Head pass?...whole other kettle of fish. I get the shivers just thinking about that short but deadly drop.

When you get to rudens is the pass your talking about to the left or to the right of the track?

There is a pass to the right that is in my opinion pretty easy. I have yet to use it to access wombat Ridge but I have just had a quick squizz at the bottom. You would just have to follow the cliffline back around but it isn't really that far from the track.

Yeah mate, the track to the left means you also have to track around the cliff line to the start of the Wombat ridge FT, so they are probably close to even distances apart.

PS Wombat ridge track is just about unrecognisable in places these days...rarely used?

Thanks we found the pass to the west of Florence Head about a km walking along the top and an easy pass . We also found the one just to the right of Florence Head mentioned in the amazing resource link that Huntsman247 provided, the book indicates it is heavily eroded so we decided not to try it
