Is there Bombo rail station access from beach?

Postby Wollemi » Mon 26 Aug, 2019 11:26 am

Walked the coastal route Gerringong - Kiama - Minnamurra on the weekend. While on Bombo beach, I decided I wanted a photo of Bombo railway station, a larger building of heritage note. (unlike ultra-modern, ultra-basic Minnamurra and Gerringong stations - utilised after parking the car at Minnamurra).

I could not see how to access Bombo rail station, although I was only 30 metres from it. I was only in board shorts, and there was lantana...

Don't think you can get to the station from the beach. You can get up to the highway from the beach access road: https://goo.gl/maps/Y81uG3USK4PZvvdj9
One foot in front of the other.

Only access looks to be from the western side.

You can't get to it directly. You have to walk about 200m North along the beach and go through the road underpass. Then left up the steps to the highway & walk back along the footpath to the station

Thank you all. Another heads up was (in hindsight) while lunching in Kiama; to look up a tide table for Kiama Harbour and see if Bombo Beach was accessible from Kiama township; on the long rock platform, locals said we would not get back due to the incoming tide (we weren't coming back).
My two companions were reluctant to walk the 400m platform, then hurried across it to Bombo Beach (while I took many photos), then the two women agreed it wasn't bad at all. I pointed out various rock-fishermen standing 80m towards the ocean from us...

I had watched the BoM opinion of the Illawarra Coast during the days before, but neglected to think of tides. http://www.bom.gov.au/nsw/forecasts/ill ... oast.shtml
