Dataset on fire affected areas

Postby Huntsman247 » Tue 10 Mar, 2020 11:18 am

It's nice to see things growing again but obviously it's going to take a while for many places to recover from the fires.

Since every place I planned a trip in this year has been burnt. I've been trying to reassess planned trips and do some in areas that I haven't been to before and haven't been affected by fire.

After a bit of digging I came across this awesome resource for nsw which contains all burnt areas in the past fire season that is no longer viewable in the fires near me app.

Link 1:

Link 2: https://geo.seed.nsw.gov.au/Public_Viewer/index.html?viewer=Public_Viewer&locale=en-AU&runWorkflow=AppendLayerCatalog&CatalogLayer=SEED_Catalog.250.GEEBAM%20Burnt%20Area%20Class

Hope this is useful to someone else.

You can also download a National Aggregated set of fire boundaries from here

https://www.emsina.org/australianbushfires

http://www.environment.gov.au/fed/catal ... 792C743%7D

Let me know if you would like it in KMZ and I will do a conversion for you (too big for KML I reckon)
Cheers - Phil

Thanks tastrax. But I'm getting a 'requested resource is not available' error.
If you can make it into a kmz that would be very much appreciated!

The first link leads you to the second (the web thingy is not working).

This will get you a file to download. In zip form some 25Mb.

That contains a pdf and a jpg file with a map of Oz ... not much detail there.

I'd have to look at the rest to see if that has better detail... don't think so. It is a general area thing I think?

I note the OSM attribution, probably for the base map used.

I think tapatalk has some good bugs if that's what your using. I just tried to update links. When visiting the first link scroll to the bottom and find the 'show on seed map' button. It has pretty good detail.

John Souter of Shoalhaven Bush Walkers has put together a list of walks in the Greater Shoalhaven area that are within unburned and burned areas. Since you do a lot of walking in the Budawangs, their list might be of interest to you:

Thanks ribuck! It looks like there's some good ideas there. I'll have to take a good look over the weekend.
