Campsites past Dex Creek

Postby Turfa » Thu 30 Sep, 2010 9:04 pm

Heading out to do the Kanagra to Katoomba track this long weekend. I've been trying to remember if there are any decent places to camp past Dex Creek on towards Carra Top. From past trips I remember it being reasonably flat but pretty scrubby.
It would be good to have an alternative place to camp if it's crowded at Dex Creek.
Anyone have any ideas ?

Have a great weekend everyone !

No not really. Dex is the pick. The only water on the ridge between K and the Coxs. Never had any problem with crowds there.

Dex Ck is not bad for camping - and it does have water. The camping area is not that big however. Just past Dex Ck - it is very scrubby. It depends on your route. If you go down Marcotts Pass - then there is a nice camp cave below the cliffs (no water - unless is has been raining and you may get drips). If you go down Strongleg - then you could camp on the way - there are some open areas - along the ridge and the approach to it. An alternative could be to bypass Dex Ck, eg - go down Marooba Karoo ridge to Kanangra Ck (a nice ridge) - and then camp at the bottom (and you could do a side trip to Cloudmaker on the way.
