Army Road to Gospers Mountain

Postby 392carl » Thu 06 Jan, 2011 12:45 pm

I am wanting to get some info about the condition of the Gospers Mountain Fire Trail (the old Army Road). I intend to do a food drop out there for a walk through the wollemi and was wondering about the condition of this trail for push bikes. The plan is to ride in from Dunn's swamp and do a drop off at the hut at Gosper's Mountain, but this plan may well be foiled if the army road has been left to revegetate. Is it overgrown, severely eroded or generally slow going on a bike or is it pretty good? Also, is the closest locked gate still the one at Dunn's swamp?
Cheers

The road is OK for mountain bikes - but make sure you take puncture gear/spare tubes etc. There can be sharp rocks. There is a locked gate at the start of the road at Red Hill and a locked NPWS barrier just after the road descends - on the section past Mt D'Arcy.

Gospers Mtn is still an inholding within Wollemi NP (ie private land) - so it may be best to leave a cache in another place.
