Kanangra Walls Car Park

Years ago this car park had a very dubious history irt break ins whilst people were away bushwalking. One Easter we arrived at Cloudmaker (from Katoomba) to find that someone had written in the log book something along the lines of "sorry people but we just came from K Walls and every car there has been broken into".

Does the car park still have this reputation or is anyone aware of any such recent incidents? In the past few years I have started walks there a few times but have always either got lifts or got dropped off by commercial operators because of this problem.

I'm still looking at all the options, but this year we are looking at the possiblity of using a hire car (we are flying down from Brisbane) because it is a similar price and more time efficient than the train and a local charter, but we don't want to return after 10 days and find the car has been trashed.

I have not heard of a car being broken into at the Walls carpark in recent years. Best not to leave valuables in the car though (eg wallets)

Have left my car there for 3 day stretches (weekend periods) several times in the last year. Have not had any problems myself or seen any with other cars parked there.

Mate, Ive parked there dozens of times and never had an issue. I am in the practice of leaving nothing in the car that is visible. I also know a bloke that leaves his glove box and centre console lid open so the would be robber (if any) can see there is nothing in the car to steal BEFORE they do damage to the car.

Years ago climbing at Nowra, there was such a problem at one car park that the modus operandi was to leave nothing in the car, glove box open & car unlocked.

I did this many times & never had the car stolen or any damage done, where other cars around would have smashed windows.

Never had a problem there.
But have had cars broken into at the bottom of Macquarie Pass in the Illawarra last year.

Also no problems when I have been there. Hard to stop the oppertunist
