Trails in the Yellow Dog Mountains

Postby matthewdean » Sun 06 Nov, 2011 10:21 am

Hello,

Recently I've been expanding my list of completed walks around the blue mountains area and recently completed the Katoomba to Mobbs Swamp walk. I found it to be a nice walk although the Topo Map I was using did not appear to have listed all the trails I encountered. I found myself at a point along the way which had 4 different trails each going in different directions.. I had plotted some simple compass headings and had no problems determining which directions was that of the map but I'm curious to know if there is anywhere I can find better trailed maps so I can mark them on my map for next time...

The topo map im referring to is the Dept of Lands 3rd Series (Jenolan sheet).

Cheers!

Get yourself a copy the Gangerang sketch map by Myles Dunphy.

You can get a copy from the Colong Foundation

Thanks for the reply, I have actually seen these maps before and wanted to know where they came from!

Will definitely look into them.

If you want to explore this area further, another great publication is "Day Walks in Therabulat Country" Also known as Wild Dog Mountains in the Blue Mountains National Park.
I picked up a copy a few weeks ago at Megalong Books

My track notes on Splendour Rock have most of the tracks in the area marked

Thanks for the reply Tom,

After looking at your maps I can now tell that it was most likely the crossroads of the trail heading up from Blackhorse gap and following the Blackhorse ridge line that I crossed.
