Access into The Bluff area

Postby andrewbish » Sat 28 Jul, 2012 11:11 am

I want to get up to the Bluff/Mt Clear area in the next few weeks. My plan is to go in via Eight Mile Gap. However, per Parkweb, Brocks road is closed for the Winter.

Can anyone tell me if all of Brocks Road is closed or just the section beyond Low Saddle Road Junction or perhaps the section beyond the intersection with Clear Creek Road?
Or perhaps you can suggest another access route?

Hi Andrew

There are gates about 1k in along Clear Ck road, towards Nobs Tk, also another one about 200 meters along Brocks Rd once you have passed the split with Clear Ck Road.

The way I'd be going is along the track east from 8 Mile Gap. Just how far in you'll get in would depend a lot on the conditions- but from memory, there used to be access at least to Refrigerator Gap. My vague recollection is that there was access to within a couple of Ks of Bluff Hut. The first para is up to date re the gates.

Circuit Road is closed- which rules out coming in via Bindaree.

Good Luck!

Bluff Link Road is open and drivable, albeit a teensy bit rough at the moment. That will get you to the start of the Bluff Walking Track, or even to the base of the 4WD track up past the hut. Not much snow left on the Bluff as of a couple of weekends back. Bit more on Clear, but pretty well all the lower level stuff is well gone. It was a short winter.
