Any good spots for camping / hiking in Barmah National Park?

Postby 3flp » Wed 07 Dec, 2016 1:26 pm

I want to check the Barmah NP this weekend. It's quite a new park, and it looks interesting. I might bring a fishing rod as well  . The park web site says it's mostly still flooded but some tracks are already open. My transport is an off-road motorbike, so I can, with care, get to some places that may be hard to get to with a car. What are some good spots to check out?

(I set my bike up to run quietly, I ride slowly, respect the rules, and I take care not to disturb anything. It's more nature friendly than a big-ass 4WD.)

I unfortunately don't have any specific locations but definitely not under a big redgum if your looking to have a long life.

Normally, just go looking and you'll find a pleasant spot (easier to do when walking), but with the current flooding only a few tracks are open, so it will be a bit more difficult.

Did you get to Barhmah 3flp? I might give it a go for a lazy canoe trip over New Years. I'd rather go walking in the high country but my partner would prefer an aquatic activity.

Did you find any good camp spots?
A friend and I might hike out there, looking to do a two night venture. Any advice on the park and it's options would be greatly appreciated.

I went there on the weekend. The access to park is basically closed, except for the campgrounds. The camping area is near the entrance to the park. It was quite busy, with no nice remaining camp sites left when I got there on Saturday afternoon. I ended up camping right near the edge of Barmah lake.

Bushwalking was a bit difficult as well, because of the flooding.

A beautiful fishing spot. I didn't have any luck catching anything, so I'll have to try again, next time.

It's a pity the park was closed and it'll be great to check it out, once the flooding subsides and the park reopens.

Nice photos 3flp and an interesting idea adding the soundscape too. Thanks for posting.
