Avon Wilderness Park

Postby Rlgm12 » Thu 02 Feb, 2017 11:46 am

My maps tell me there isn't much except a NS 4WD track along its eastern side.
Is there any sort of bushwalking possibility or even just some walk in camp?
Anything at all?
Anyone been there even for 4WDing?
I'm just trying to figure out what the park is like, thinking of going there sometime soon.

It will be hot and fly blown until the end of March. Much of the Avon Wilderness is at lower elevation , sub alpine and montane scrub lands. Many of the 'tracks' are not maintained.

Hi Rlgm12,
Back when I was a young bloke I looked at the Golden Point Hut - Purgatory Spur - Mt Hump - The Sentinel - Millers Hut and then out via Tali Karng and the Wellington River. I got as far as a recon into Golden Point Hut, it all looked doable, although fairly tough. Water was the main problem back then (30 years ago) as it's basically a ridge walk, but I suspect bush fire regrowth may be a bigger problem nowadays. I'm pretty sure some of the bushwalking clubs would still run walks up through there so it might pay to talk to them.
Let us know how you go if you do walk up there as I haven't totally abandoned the idea;)
Cheers Kevin
