Feral horses in the Nelse area??

Postby Xplora » Thu 18 May, 2017 3:31 pm

Apparently around six feral horses have been spotted around the Nelse area. This is considered quite unusual and indications are they may have migrated from Mt. Jim and Tawonga Huts area. Why they would migrate is uncertain but every feral horse on the High Plains has been photographed and cataloged. If you have seen feral horses in the Nelse area could you post as much information as you have. Good photographs which clearly show the head are also helpful for identification. Keep a look out when walking the area for signs of horses. Stallions will mark a trail or area with piles of dung. As winter approaches the horses will seek more sheltered areas. This is an opportunity for us to assist in the management of this feral animal.

Located yesterday at Fitzgerald Hut. I recognise the stallion as one from the Mt. Jim area but last I saw him he only had one mare with a foal at foot. Now he has at least 5 mature mares and 4 foals.
